This 20-home papakāinga development, located adjacent to Te Āwhina Marae in Motueka, represents the largest such project we have contributed to. Now fully completed and occupied, the development provides a mix of housing types to support intergenerational living, with dedicated homes for kaumātua and whānau alike.

The masterplan includes a communal building, outdoor gathering space, children’s playground, and basketball court, offering shared amenities that strengthen community connection and support everyday living. Generous green spaces and extensive native planting reinforce a design approach grounded in manaakitanga, wellbeing, and long-term sustainability — challenging the conventional model of high-density housing.

Delivered in close collaboration with marae leadership, whānau, consultants, and the wider project team, Te Āwhina Papakāinga has set a new benchmark for kaupapa-driven residential development in the region.
